We provide the following Special Services:
- Companion Animal Therapy Laser
Our Companion Animal Therapy Laser is used for a variety of conditions in our small and large animals. It works by transmitting photons of light that penetrate the affected area to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing. Laser therapy has been utilized for post-surgical pain and healing, wound care treatment, chronic arthritis cases, chronic inflammatory conditions, lameness, and many other indications.
- Cryotherapy
Our cryotherapy machine is a successful alternative to surgical intervention. Cryotherapy has been widely used to remove small masses from your pets as well as chronic inflammatory skin problems. This is a non-invasive method that does not require sedation/general anesthesia to accomplish.
- Abdominal Ultrasound
Our new ultrasound machine is being utilized for a variety of small animal cases. It is used for full abdominal scans, focal abdominal scans for areas of interest, FAST scans for trauma patients, pregnancy detection, and guided cystocentesis (urine collection). Abdominal ultrasound provides a non-invasive way to image the internal organs and provide more detail and information than traditional radiographs (X-rays) can provide.
- Small Animal Breeding Consultation
From deciding whether your pet is a recommended breeding candidate to assisting with the breeding process, we have plenty of information that we can offer to help you make the most responsible decision. Progesterone testing, semen evaluation, and surgical breeding are all services we can provide to improve breeding quality and efficiency. We are competent in performing caesarean sections for females having difficulty during labor.
- PennHip and OFA Testing
We are trained to properly take radiographs of the hips to send off for PennHip and OFA assessment. These organizations give owners and breeders valuable information about the conformation and laxity of the hip joints that owners can help make responsible breeding decisions.
- Genetic Testing
We have recently begun working with Embark Veterinary, Inc. to provide genetic testing for dogs. This service gives pet owners and breeders information about their personal dog that can help for a variety of reasons. These include knowing breed percentages of your dog, diseases and conditions that your dog may be predisposed to, and conditions that may be passed on to the next generation if responsible breeding practices aren’t followed. This is a non-invasive test that only involves a cheek swab. Genetic testing is a prognostic test, meaning that it gives information on what conditions a dog may develop, but it does not diagnose what condition a dog currently has.
- Orthopedic Surgery
We provide a variety of options when orthopedic surgery is needed. We perform surgeries on hips and knees for multiple indications, including ACL injuries, luxating patella, or femoral head ostectomy for luxated hips. For fractured bones, we can pin, plate, or place a cast depending on which method is best indicated in the situation. We will perform amputations of either front limbs or hind limbs as well.
- Dental Radiography
Our dental radiography machine is utilized for every dental cleaning on our dogs and cats. Dental x-rays are very helpful in determining the true health of teeth that isn’t visible above the gum line. This information is used when deciding whether teeth need extracted or to identify other abnormalities within the mouth.
- Large Animal Surgery
We are very competent in performing large animal surgery at the clinic and on the farm. Our large animal surgery room allows us to use local and general anesthesia, have improved sterilization techniques, and better monitoring to accomplish various surgeries. These include castrations (including cryptorchidism), hernia repair, scirrhus cord, caesarean sections, and dehorning on cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.
